Brief: Colombian developer advances plans for 649-MW hydroelectric plant
Colombia’s Universal Stream is moving forward with plans to build a 649-MW hydroelectric plant in in the Amazonian department of Caquetá.
The company recently submitted a request to file an environmental diagnosis of alternatives (DAA) with national licensing authority ANLA, according to documents seen by BNamericas.  The application comes after preliminary details of the project were presented to ANLA in December 2019.  
Dubbed Proyecto Hidroeléctrico La Paz, the complex is planned for the municipality of Puerto Rico, around 600 km south of the capital of Bogotá. It would cost 2.71 trillion pesos (US$720 million) to build and include a 950-ha spillway, according to a report by Universidad de Los Andes.
