China Three Gorges Corp (CTG) announced that it has successfully black started the no.16 generator on the right bank of its Xiluodu Hydropower Station.

A black start is a process that allows a power station or electric grid to recover from a complete or partial shutdown through an internal or external electric power transmission network. It may be required during emergencies such as natural disasters.

In order to minimize the impact caused by power outages, Xiluodu Hydropower Station has developed a “one-button black start” feature, streamlining and automating all manual operations so that the black start can be achieved in a much shorter time than a conventional manual black start.
