On October 23, 2012, the 6th International Symposium on Roller Compacted Concrete (RCC) Dams was held in Zaragoza, Spain, with the participation of more than 300 representatives from over 30 countries. Under the invitation of Spanish Committee on Large Dams (SPANCOLD), Dr. Jia Jinsheng, as Vice President and Secretary General of Chinese National Committee on Large Dams (CHINCOLD), Honorary President of International Commission on Large Dams (ICOLD) and Vice President of China Institute of Water Resources and Hydropower Research (IWHR), led the delegate to participate in the symposium.
In 1991, CHINCOLD and SPANCOLD jointly held the 1st International Symposium on RCC Dams in China, and till now the 6th symposiums have been successfully held. The series of meetings have promoted the technical exchange and enhanced the cooperation on RCC dams in the world and become the authoritative platform for international exchange of RCC dam technology.
The 29 Chinese experts participating the Symposium are from Water Resources and Hydropower Planning and Design General Institute under the MWR, Hydrochina Corporation, Construction and Administration Bureau of South-to-North Water Diversion Middle Route Project, China Three Gorges Corporation, Ertan Hydropower Development Co., Ltd., Xiaolangdi Dam Project Construction and Management Bureau, CPI Yunnan International Power Investment Co., Ltd., Huaneng Lancang River Hydropower Co., Ltd., Guizhou Wujiang Hydropower Development Co., Ltd., Guizhou Qianyuan Power Co., Ltd., Huaneng Longkaikou Hydropower Engineering Construction and Administration Bureau, China Water Huaihe Planning, Design and Research Co., Ltd., IWHR, and Secretariat of CHINCOLD.

Since the end of 20th century, RCC dams have achieved rapid development, which has attracted high attention of the international dam industry. The Chinese delegates attending the Symposium included Prof. WU Shiyong, Vice General Manager of Ertan Hydropower Development Co., Ltd., Prof. Chen Xianming, Senior Engineers Zhu Hongbing, Gao Peng and Qian Xiaohui of China Three Gorges Corporation, Prof. Zhao Quansheng of Hydropower and Water Resources Planning and Design General Institute, etc.

On the closing ceremony of the Symposium, the awarding ceremony of International Milestone Project Award was held, where ICOLD President Mr. Adama Nombre, Honorary President Mr. Luis Berga and Dr. Jia Jinsheng granted the awards to the award-winning projects. Taum Sauk from USA, Guangzhao from China, and La Breña II from Spain won the International Milestone Project Award for RCC dams. These award-winning projects have made great achievements on dam construction, operation and management and ecological protection with significant reference value on similar dam projects.

During the Symposium, CHINCOLD and SPANCOLD renewed the cooperation agreement on RCC dam technology. Dr. Jia Jinsheng, on behalf of CHINCOLD President Wang Shucheng, attended the cooperation agreement signature ceremony. The other participants included SPANCOLD Chairman Mr. José Polimón, ICOLD Preisident Mr. Adama Nombre and Honorary Presient Mr. Luis Berga, etc.

After the Symposium, the Chinese delegates visited the projects such as Embalse De Mularroya core rockfill dam project from Spain and Filiatrinos cement-sand-gravel dam project from Greek.
