To carry out and promote the World Declaration on Hydropower and Dams for African Sustainable Development issued by the International Committee on Large Dams(ICOLD) and other international organization, the Chinese National Committee on Large Dams(CHINCOLD) called together African experts to the ”Round Table Meeting on Sustainable Development of Dams and Hydropower” in Chengdu on 12th Oct, 2012. This was the third round table meeting organized by CHINCOLD after the first one held in Beijing in Nov., 2010 and the second in Zhengzhou in Sep., 2011. 10 representatives of Africa, from Ghana, Kenya, Libya, Nigeria, South Africa, Mozambique, Ethiopia and Zimbabwe, attended the meeting. The attendants discussed the current situation of dam construction and hydropower development in Africa as well as future intention and prospect of cooperation; and after the meeting, the African representatives visited the Xiangjiaba Hydropower Station and the Zipingpu Dam. This meeting has furthered the mutual understanding and communication among different parties and will play a positive role in promoting the hydropower construction in African countries and the bilateral communication in the field of water resources and hydropower development.
