The Iranian ministry of Energy announced that it will sign a contract with the Chinese side to finance the construction of Bakhtiari Dam this March.

Bakhtiari Dam is to be an arched dam on Bakhtiari River within Zagros Mountains, southwest of Iran, with the capacity to hold 4.8 billion m2 of water. The crest of the Dam will be 315 m above sea level. The dam will be the tallest concrete dam in the world, with an expected investment as high as 20 billion dollars.

According to Iran Daily, the dam is expected to help Iran in controlling and managing a growing water shortage across the country.
