In May 23-26, 2010, the 78th Annual Meeting of the International Commission on Large Dam (ICOLD) was held in Hanoi, Vietnam. An International Symposium on “Dams and Sustainable Development of Water Resources” was held during the Annual Meeting. Headed by Dr. Jia Jinsheng, President of ICOLD, Vice President and Secretary General of CHINCOLD, Vice President of IWHR, over 60 delegates from China Three Gorges Corporation, China Guodian Corporation, Huai River Water Resources Commission, IWHR, Nanjing Hydraulic Research Institute, Changjiang Institute of Survey, Planning, Design and Research, Kunming Hydroelectric Investigation, Design and Research Institute, Guiyang Hydropower Investigation Design & Research Institute, Xiaolangdi Dam Project Construction and Management Bureau, Longtan Hydropower Development Co., Ltd, Datang Yantan Hydropower Co., Ltd, Sichuan Aba Hydropower Development Co., Ltd, China Water Resources Pearl River Planning Surveying &Designing Co., Ltd and Hubei Qingjiang Hydropower Development Co., Ltd, attended the meeting.
On May 25, the opening ceremony of the International Symposium on “Dams and Sustainable Development of Water Resources” was held. Vietnam Deputy Prime Minister Hoang Trung Hai and President of ICOLD Jia Jinsheng, delivered their speeches, respectively. A press conference was held after the opening ceremony. Twenty experts from China, Spain, India, Vietnam, Britain, France, Switzerland, Nigeria, Brazil, the United States, Germany, Japan, Iran and the Czech Republic made reports on the role of dams and reservoirs, policies and strategies of water resource management, and new standards for dam safety management.
Academician Chen Houqun from IWHR made a keynote report on” Study on Dam Seismic Safety after the Wenchuan Earthquake”, Chief Engineer Liu Zihui from Changjiang Institute of Survey, Planning, Design and Research made a report on “Water Resources Management of Danjiangkou Reservoir” and Prof. Xu Zeping from IWHR gave a report on “Discussions on the Technical Issues of the Construction of 300m High CFRD”. All were highly appraised by the delegates.
During the annual meeting, ICOLD also held Board Meeting, Round Table Meeting on Dams and Hydropower for Sustainable Development in Africa, the 78th Executive Meeting of ICOLD and Board Meeting of APG of ICOLD and etc.
