SINOHYDRO Corporation is the largest and most successful Chinese construction company in the field of hydraulic and hydropower engineering, and managed internationally as a state-owned enterprise (SOE) under the State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission of the State Council (SASAC). With a registered capital of RMB 4 billion, SINOHYDRO now has 17 wholly owned subsidiaries and 10 holding companies in China and 33 overseas managerial departments, representative offices and subsidiaries in 32 countries. In 2007, the business revenue and total assets both exceed RMB 50 billion for the first time. During the first performance evaluation on the central state-owned enterprises, SINOHYDRO was awarded the “Special Prize for Performance Improvement” by SASAC. In 2008, with both total assets over RMB 70 billion and business revenue over RMB 60 billion, SINOHYDRO ranked 84th among Top 500 Chinese Enterprises and 50th among Top 225 International Contractors.
SINOHYDRO provides services in a wide range of business, including general contracting of domestic and overseas hydraulic and hydropower projects and related supporting services such as surveying, construction, consultation and supervision. SINOHYDRO also has expertise in fabrication, installation and delivery of mechanical and electrical equipment, design, construction, consultation and supervision of power plants, roads, railways, ports, navigation waterways, airports, housing projects, public utility and urban railways. In addition, SINOHYDRO engages in investment and financing, real estate development, import and export. So SINOHYDRO has successfully diversified itself from a hydropower projects constructor into a mega-scale corporation group with multiple businesses.
Since the 1950s, SINOHYDRO has undertaken over 70% of large and medium scale hydraulic and hydropower projects in China, with hundreds of hydropower stations completed. The total installed hydropower generation capacity has reached 100,000 MW. These efforts helped China become the No.1 in the world in terms of conventional hydropower installed capacity and total scale of hydropower projects under construction. A host of projects undertaken by SINOHYDRO are awarded by the national and local governments with various prizes such as the Luban Prize, Golden Prize, Silver Prize and Excellent Prize. Meanwhile, SINODYRO has scored impressive progress in non-hydropower sectors. In 2008, SINOHYDRO won the bid of Beijing-Shanghai express railway, a major breakthrough in our extension into non-hydropower markets and a boost to the SINOHYDRO brand.
With the adoption of advanced construction technologies and new materials, SINOHYDRO has successfully resolved a series of world-class technical difficulties in hydraulic and hydropower projects and related civil engineering field. SINOHYDRO has ranked the top in the world in terms of comprehensive technology level.
While maintaining its advantage in the construction, SINOHYDRO also expanded steadily into the investment. SINOHYDRO has invested in a host of high quality projects involving hydropower, thermal power, wind power, water industries, real estates and BOT high ways. The invested total installed capacity of power projects amounts to 6,270 MW of which our equity averages is about 44.2%.
SINOHYDRO actively follows the national policy of “going global”. It has conducted projects contracting and economic and technological cooperation with over 50 countries and regions in Asia, Africa, Europe and America. Now, SINOHYDRO takes 50% of market share in global hydropower construction and ranked the 3rd among all Chinese international contractors in 2008. Undoubtedly, SINOHYDRO is the first brand in global hydropower sector.
SINOHYDRO aims to develop into a “leading international group with sustainable upward momentum, powerful brand effect, strong international competitiveness, superior management skills, great quality and high efficiency.” Moreover, SINOHYDRO has determined a development strategy, i.e. “coordinated development in the four pillar business, steady extension on project contracting and asset management, and expansion in both domestic and overseas market.”
